The North Split Project plans lane restrictions, closures and traffic redirects

MARION CO. – The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announced today that on or after August 26, there will be nightly lane restrictions on both eastbound and westbound Washington Street for structure demolition.

Depending on where demolition work is occurring, traffic will shift to avoid active demolition areas. Through traffic and turning movements will be maintained, although motorists should be aware of changing traffic patterns in the area. Washington Street construction will be finished on or after September 16, weather permitting

Also, beginning on or after August 30 through September 1, there will be daytime lane intermittent closures on Vermont Street to set bridge beams. The short-term traffic restrictions will last for a maximum of up to 20 minutes. Vehicles and pedestrians should expect changing traffic conditions in the area.

Additionally, eastbound Ohio Street will be closed to traffic at College Avenue on or after September 1, weather permitting. All eastbound Ohio Street traffic will be redirected to New York Street via College Avenue for the duration of this closure. It is anticipated that Ohio Street will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic until September 28.

During the Ohio Street closure, access to downtown Indianapolis will be maintained via:

  • I-70 westbound exit ramp to Ohio St.
  • Pine St. entrance ramp to I-70 eastbound from New York St. and Michigan St.
  • I-65 northbound/I-70 eastbound exit ramp to Washington St.
  • I-65 northbound and southbound to Martin Luther King. Jr./West St.
  • I-65 southbound to Meridian St.
  • All existing ramps on I-70 west of the South Split
