INDIANA – COVID-19 has had an adverse effect on wealth building for many Hoosiers. But even before the pandemic, financial literacy programming efforts too often put the singular burden on low-wealth individuals to lift themselves from poverty without a lens on broader systemic factors.

So while COVID-19 has increased the barriers to wealth building through job loss and medical debt, the recovery provides an opportunity for Indiana to focus on enabling low wealth Hoosiers to shift from crisis mode to stabilization and eventually self-sufficiency, both at an individual level and through systemic policy change.

The purpose of this Indiana Assets & Opportunity Network series is to begin conversations about how asset-building strategies have been challenged by COVID-19 and to explore effective practices and solutions for wealth-building programming, philanthropy, and policy that could be scaled statewide. Join us as we hear from professionals around the state about efforts to create a more equitable Indiana.
