LAWRENCE CO. – The Lawrence County County Economic Growth Council and Workforce Coalition members Shance Sizemore and Joe Timbrook along with Shawna Girgis IU Health Foundation requested $25,000 a year for the next three years from the Lawrence County Council for IU Healths Community Impact Investment Fund.
The Lawrence County Council members took the request under advisement, they are currently in the budget process for 2022.
The estimated cost of the three-year project is $1.5 Million. The funds will help leverage CII fund dollars and ensure continued efforts of the Workforce Coalition to expand education and workforce training as well as develop trauma-informed care.
The Lawrence County Economic Growth Council and Workforce Coalition have set a goal of raising $450,000 that can be pledged over three years.
IU Health Foundation believes in investing in communities critical to making Indiana one of the healthiest states in the nation. The Foundation is looking at addressing conditions that contribute to poor health outcomes. In 2018, the IU Health Board designated the $100 Million Community Impact Investment Fund to support community efforts that address those needs.
Education and Workforce Development Training in a Trauma-Informed Care Community represents a collaboration of stakeholder organizations in Lawrence and Orange Counties that will create a cohesive system and continuum of care that recognizes children, adults, and families that are at risk and intervenes at the earliest opportunity.
The overreaching goal is to use the practices of Trauma-Informed Care to build the resiliency of residents from birth to senior adults that will develop and support them as productive and healthy members of society. This program will provide all residents the opportunity to develop a career path for local employment that pays a living wage, provides health insurance and other benefits, improves health and well-being, and ultimately improves the quality of life.
Over 28 organizations have committed over $313,000 toward the project at this time.
