Lawrence County canine, Flek, helps take narcotic drugs off the streets

BEDFORD – Two people were arrested after a Bedford Police officer stopped the vehicle they were in on July 2 after the driver failed to signal a turn into a parking spot on the east side of N Street.

The officer turned around to observe the occupants. The driver then pulled out from the parking spot and continued to travel north on N Street. The driver then turned east on 15th Street. The officer noticed the vehicle’s license plate sticker could not be clearly read because it was peeling off.

The vehicle then turned into the Marco Pizza parking lot where the officer stopped the vehicle.

While asking the driver, 23-year-old Amber Haley, of Paoli, for her license and registration her passenger, 35-year-old Caleb Ikerd, became irate with the officer questioning the reason for the traffic stop.

Haley denied officers consent to search the vehicle. A Lawrence County canine Flek was requested to the scene and alerted officers to possible drugs in the vehicle.

During a search of the vehicle, police found a baggie that contained fentanyl and a cellophane wrapper containing Alprazolam pills.

Haley told police the drugs belonged to her sister and were not hers or Ikerd’s.

Both were arrested on charges of possession of a narcotic drug and possession of a controlled substance.
