UPDATED: Firefighters battle house fire in Mitchell

MITCHELL – Firefighters from Mitchell, Huron, and Orleans, and Orange County Rural District 2 Volunteer Fire Departments battled a house fire at Oak and 4th streets. Marion Township Volunteer Fire Department was placed on standby.

Mitchell Police Department asked motorists to avoid the area to allow emergency personnel to quickly work and extinguish the blaze.

Firefighters responded to the fire just before 6 p.m.

The home is owned by Marilyn Sey. Sey moved into the home about six months ago after relocating from Greenwood.

She lives in the home with her granddaughter Chelseay Anderson who was just getting off work at IU Health Hospital when she learned about the fire.

Sey believes the fire started in the bathroom.

Sey wanted to thank the firefighters for their quick response and the community who rallied around her family in a time of need. Neighbors brought water and soft drinks to the family.

Tonight, Sey and her granddaughter will be staying with Sey’s daughter Nancy Anderson.

Tabernacle Of Praise Emergency Services also responded to the scene to assist firefighters.
