Avoca Park & Recreation Fish Fry and Gospel Sing this Saturday

AVOCA – The Avoca Park & Recreation will hold a Fish Fry and Gospel Sing on Saturday. The Fish Fry kicks off at 3:30 p.m. and the Gospel Sing begins at 6:00 p.m.

Mark Vice, Delbert and Kim Wray, Curtis Pruett, Christian Cavaliers, and Taylor and Emily Quinley. Attendees are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs for a night of food, fellowship, and fun.

The food will be prepared by Parker and Deana Judah. of Judah Catering. The meal will consist of fish, hushpuppies, baked beans, coleslaw, tea, wate, coffee and cobbler. Prices include – fish sandwich -$5.00 or full meal $8.00.

The singing will take place in the courtyard area.

All the proceeds will be used for park maintainance.

A shuttle bus will be available to transport attendees from the Avoca Post Office, Avoca Baptist Church at the lower level on the west side, and from the parking lot at the Avoca Mini-Mart to the park.

The park is starting to boom with visitors who are enjoying the use of this quaint park with trails, shelter houses, picnic, areas, and woods.

Several improvements have been made over the last year.

The maintenance building has been opened to accommodate events, new gravel was placed on the shelter house road as well as from the parking area to the furthest pond.

Flynn & Sons Excavating & Paving Inc. donated the hauling and grading, while Rogers Group and Ben’s Quarry donated the stone, thanks to the efforts of David Holmes.

Cameras have been placed in the Hamer House.

“We want to thank the Judah’s who do an excellent job with their food truck, who will be preparing the fish,” said Sam Bond Avoca Park and Recreation president.

Volunteers have been working on keeping the park in good condition for visitors to enjoy a fun-filled day picnicking or walking or running. There are several areas to see and enjoy.
