A Bedford man and woman were arrested early this morning after Bedford Police officers were called to Dairyland on Lincoln Avenue at 5:05 a.m.

James Armstrong

When police arrived they found 39-year-old James Armstrong and 22-year-old Crystal Schofield passed out in a vehicle near the fuel pumps.

Crystal Schofield

An officer shined his flash light in their faces and announced he was an officer, but the two would not wake up.  The officer then opened the door and they both woke up.

When the officer opened the door he could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Both Schofield and Armstrong admitted to smoking marijuana but denied there was anything else illegal in the vehicle.

In the center console police found a smoking device with marijuana residue inside.

In Schofield’s purse, police found a baggie containing 31.5 grams of marijuana and five pills, buprenorphine hydrochloride and naloxone hydrochloride, and a dollar bill with crystal meth residue and several more smaller baggies.

Armstrong told police he did not drive to the gas station but had been somehow transported there before they passed out.

While at the jail, a jail officer found Schofield with a glass smoking pipe and multiple baggies of 9.15 grams of crystal meth and several pills, alprazolam and acetaminophen, and hydrocodone bitartrate.

Armstrong and Schofield are facing charges of public intoxication, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Armstrong is also facing a charge of driving while driver’s license suspended with a prior conviction.

Schofield is facing additional charges of possession of meth, possession of a controlled substance, and trafficking with an inmate.
