INDOT begins 2021 construction season with Work Zone Safety Showcase

UNDATED – The Indiana Department of Transportation will join road construction contractors, the Joint Transportation Research Program, and law enforcement partners to kick off the 2021 road construction season with a work zone safety showcase on Monday, April 19 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. ET at the Robert D. Orr Plaza adjacent to the Indiana Statehouse.

INDOT and its partners will highlight several pieces of innovative equipment and technology to be deployed on highway construction projects this season intended to reduce back of queue crashes and make work zones safer.

Also participating at the event are:

  • Commissioner Joe McGuinness, Indiana Department of Transportation
  • Captain Ron Galaviz, Indiana State Police
  • Richard Hedgecock, President, Indiana Constructors, Inc.

In his 2019 legislative and administrative agenda, Governor Eric Holcomb directed and INDOT and the Indiana State Police to research and implement technology solutions to reduce work zone crashes. A multi-agency task force was formed in late 2019 with research and testing performed during the 2020 construction season.
