Two public intoxication charges made at Ruler

BEDFORD – Two people were arrested Friday after Bedford Police officers were called to Ruler Foods after a report of two customers in the store possibly intoxicated on drugs.

Joseph Sanders

When police arrived at 6:24 p.m. they found 36-year-old Joseph Sanders and 48-year-old Michelle Evans in the frozen food section.

Michelle Evans

Police say while speaking to both their speech was unintelligible and Sanders almost fell over several times due to his level of intoxication. Police say Evans was holding herself up by leaning on the grocery cart.

Both told officers they had not taken anything other than what was prescribed to them.

Sanders was in possession of an unmarked pill bottle, containing what was later identified as Suboxone.

Both failed field sobriety tests. Both were arrested on charges of public intoxication.
