Bedford man arrested on alcohol and public indecency charges

BEDFORD – A Bedford man was arrested after a Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department found a blue Ford truck parked in the 9740 block of State Road 37 in the left turn lane.

The deputy stopped to check on the driver.

Ty Grubb

The officer found 31-year-old Ty Grubb slumped over in front of the steering wheel. The officer flashed his light into the vehicle multiple times and knocked on the window to get Grubb’s attention but he would not respond. The officer then opened the driver’s door.

Grubb woke and was asked to step out of the vehicle.

Police say Grubb mumbled something and after being asked 8 times finally turned off the vehicle. But the vehicle was not in park and began to roll backward. An officer had to reach inside the truck and put the vehicle in park.

Grubb was asked again to step out of the vehicle and finally did.

Grubb then reached down and unzipped his pants and told officers he needed to urinate. He was ordered to stop. He then continued to urinate in the roadway. When finished he then began walking away from officers southbound on State Road 37. He was told to stop and was restrained due to the potential of walking into traffic.

Officers said Grubb was unsteady on his feet and smelled of alcohol. He told officers he had been parked on State Road 37 for about an hour and had drunk four beers earlier. Police say Grubb failed standard field sobriety testing.

Grubb was transported to IU Health Hospital for a blood draw and then transported to jail on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, public nudity, and indecent exposure.
