Friends of Spring Mill hosting their annual meeting virtual

MITCHELL – The Friends of Spring Mill State Park are hosting their annual meeting virtually this year on March 16th at 6 p.m.  You don’t have to be a current member of the group to attend.

Friends President Teena Ligman said she will miss seeing everyone gather in person to celebrate the group’s accomplishments and discuss plans for the upcoming year.

“We had to cancel our annual meeting in March 2020, so it’s been a while since we’ve all been together,” said Ligman. “However, with the uncertainties of COVID-19, the attendance might be better if people could meet virtually and people could safely join from their homes. Some Friends members live in other states so this would give them an opportunity to call in and participate.”

In 2020, when so many things could not happen and most Park events were canceled or scaled back, the Friends of Spring Mill were still able to accomplish many worthwhile projects and want to share those accomplishments and their plans for 2021.

Property Manager Mark Young will speak on the changes he has seen in the Park during the past 39 years.

The Friends are working on developing a website to make more of the Park history accessible. The website will include photos and historic documents, and oral histories that were recorded through the years.

“The group is still working out the details, they will have door prizes offered and look forward to ‘seeing’ you that evening,” Ligman added.

At the meeting, those attending will not only learn what the group has accomplished in the past year but will also have an opportunity to learn about some of the projects planned for 2021. You can also make suggestions on projects you would like to see the group focus on.

“I hope for a good turnout to share what our team of volunteers has accomplished,” Ligman added. “We are excited about what we’ve done and are only limited in the future by how much help we have, so please join us and learn how you can help!”
