JASPER – Bedford North Lawrence’s Alexander Swenson claimed the top seed in the 200-yard individual medley during the IHSAA sectional preliminaries at Jasper on Friday night.
Swenson clocked a time of 2:06.57 to take the top spot for the finals. The winner of each event will automatically qualify for the state championships at IUPUI on Feb. 26-27.
The Stars settled for the second seed in five events. BNL clocked a time of 1:47.05 in the 200 medley relay (with Cole Baker, Garrett Henson, Swenson and John Allen) and 3:32.60 in the 400 freestyle relay (with Baker, Adam Tlustek, Swenson and Allen).
Allen was second in the 200 free (1:51.72), Baker was second in the 50 free (22.87) and Swenson was second in the 500 free (5:10.65).
BNL will compete in the sectional finals on Saturday, with action starting at 3 p.m.
