(MARION) – Indiana Wesleyan University is exploring the possibility of adding an Engineering program that will offer four concentration areas in Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. Pending full accreditation approval from the Higher Learning Commission, the program will likely launch in Fall 2022.
“Establishment of an engineering degree with various concentrations provides IWU students with another academic option in a growing, in-demand field,” said Dr. Aly Williams, vice president of academic affairs. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment in architecture and engineering occupations is projected to grow 3% from 2019 to 2029. The median annual wage for architecture and engineering was $81,440 in 2019.
The proposed program will also partner with IWU’s Division of Art + Design on some unique partnerships and collaborations, which will allow sharing of resources and mutual strengthening of these majors.
“The program strives to be distinctive and unique in its approach, collaborative with other programs on campus, and steadfast in its desire to graduate Christian engineers prepared to make an impact on the world for Christ,” said Williams.
IWU is also excited to announce the recent hire of Engineering Program Director Dr. David Che, who is helping to design and develop the program. Che has M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from The Ohio State University and The University of Michigan, respectively. He also brings extensive experience as a professor and leader in engineering academic programs around the Midwest. Che brings a fresh perspective on building unique programs that incorporate elements of design thinking into engineering education.

With the pending launch of IWU’s Engineering program, the University’s existing Pre-Engineering program is thrilled to be offering two new courses—Introduction to Engineering and Computer Aided Design—for the 2021-2022 academic year.
