Edinburg Police Officer Arrested on Molestation Charges

(EDINBURG) – An Edinburg Police Officer was arrested after being accused of molesting a 12-year-old girl.

Michael Nunez

Officer Michael Nunez, 33, is facing two felony counts of child molesting and was arrested after an investigation began in late December 2020.

According to a probable cause affidavit, the girl’s mother contacted another Edinburg officer about the allegations. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Department was then asked to investigate.

Officers attempted to contact Nunez by phone. He refused to speak to investigators.

He was located working a security job on December 30th. Based on his actions and conversation with officers on that day, he was taken to a nearby hospital for an evaluation. He was released from the hospital on Tuesday and arrested.

Johnson County Prosecutor Joe Villanueva says he will prosecute the case. He says he nor any of his attorneys personally know Nunez or have any connection to him, the Edinburgh Police Department, or the town of Edinburgh. The case does not deal with any allegations of criminal conduct committed in Nunez’s official capacity as an Edinburgh Police officer.
