(BEDFORD) – The Lawrence County Independent Schools conducted their second meeting since being approved as a charter school Thursday night.

Public Meeting – 7:00 p.m.

Agenda items and contributions are due each month by noon on Tuesday of a meeting week.

The meetings of LCIS are being conducted by Zoom or available for the public on their YouTube Channel.

Education One officials discussed the four areas the new charter school will be evaluated on at the local, state, and federal level to make sure the school is held accountable. The school is expected to open in June of 2021 and the school officials are working towards that opening date. Education One will be discussing these areas in more detail what the school will be evaluated on a routine basis.

The LCIS has opened up the hiring process for a Head Master of the School on January 2, 2020. Applications are being accepted at this time for that position. The group hopes to appoint a Head Master of School in the upcoming weeks.

By-laws for the newly formed corporation are being drafted and is expected to be voted on in the coming weeks.

The group will also be looking at finding a Treasurer in the near future to replace Jerry Hill who wants to step away from that position.

Background checks will be done on every board member of the newly formed charter school.

The group is in need of donated items for their upcoming Silent Auction to be held on January 31st via Facebook.

The group is developing applications for upcoming enrollment for the upcoming school year. LCIS will be licensed to operate over the next five years.
