Four City Of Bloomington Employees Receive Positive COVID-19 Results

(BLOOMINGTON) – Four City of Bloomington employees received positive results of COVID-19 viral tests last week.  Details of each case are as follows:

  • One employee of the Public Works Department who works in the Animal Care and Control Division began experiencing symptoms on Friday, December 18, isolated, and was tested Monday, December 21, receiving the positive result the same day.  Co-workers identified as close contacts were identified and contacted, and cleaning protocols at the employee’s workspace and shared areas were completed.  No close contacts among the general public were identified.  (Close contact is defined by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as someone who was within six feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes starting from two days before illness onset–or, for asymptomatic clients, two days prior to positive specimen collection–until the time the patient is isolated.)  The employee is on leave to recover. 
  • One City Hall employee began experiencing symptoms on Friday, December 18, isolated, and was tested Monday, December 21, receiving the positive result on Wednesday, December 23.  No close contacts among co-workers or the general public were identified.  Cleaning protocols at the employee’s workspace and shared areas were completed.  The employee is on leave to recover. 
  • One City of Bloomington Utilities (CBU) employee began experiencing symptoms on Saturday, December 19, isolated, and was tested Tuesday, December 22, receiving the positive result Wednesday, December 23.  No close contacts among co-workers or the general public were identified.  Cleaning protocols at the employee’s workspace and shared areas were completed.  The employee is on leave to recover. 
  • An employee of the Parks and Recreation Department who works at the Banneker Center received a positive result Thursday, December 24 of a COVID-19 viral test administered the same day.  The employee, who is asymptomatic, went on leave that day.  No close contacts were identified among co-workers or the general public.  Cleaning protocols of the employee’s workspace and shared areas were completed.   

Today’s announcement brings to 51 the total number of positive COVID-19 viral test results that have been reported by City workers, including those employed by the municipal corporations that operate the water utility (CBU) and transit system (Bloomington Transit).  An additional City employee reported a positive COVID-19 antibody test result.
