Seymour Police Investigate Stolen Handgun, Two Arrested

(SEYMOUR) – On Thursday, investigators and patrol officers with the Seymour Police Department received information on the whereabouts of a wanted individual and a possible stolen handgun.

The information led investigators and patrol officers to the 200 block of East 13th Street in Seymour.

When investigators and patrol officers arrived they found a handgun in plain view in the center console of a 2020 Volkswagen.

Investigators secured the vehicle and had it towed to the Seymour Police Department.

Investigators and patrol officers then went to the residence and located 20-year-old Tyler Burke, of Seymour.

Burke was wanted on an outstanding Jackson County Warrant.

While in the residence, investigators obtained a search warrant from Jackson Superior Court 1 for the residence.

During the search, investigators located marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and two more handguns.

Investigators then obtained a search warrant for the vehicle and recovered the handgun that had been reported stolen on November 17th at the Seymour Police Department.

Burke was arrested on the outstanding Jackson County warrant, and new charges of possession of a handgun without a permit, theft, and possession of marijuana.

A juvenile at the residence was also arrested for obstruction of justice and released to a grandparent.

The investigation is ongoing.
