I-69 Finish Line Weekly Update

(MARTINSVILLE) – Coming soon – new bridges. Work is nearing completion on three new bridges that will open to traffic in the coming weeks.

The new bridge over State Road 37 at Perry Road will open first. It’s expected to open to traffic late this week. The new bridges over S.R. 37 for Waverly and Egbert roads are expected to open later this month.

The bridges will provide key connectivity, especially during next year’s construction of the new I-69 lanes in Martinsville and Morgan County.

The new bridges will connect local roads along S.R. 37. For example, motorists will use the new bridge connecting Old S.R. 37 with Egbert Road to access S.R. 37 at Henderson Ford Road.

The new bridge over S.R. 37 near Henderson Ford will open to traffic later in the project. A temporary traffic signal at the existing S.R. 37 and Henderson Ford Road is expected to be activated late this week.

Motorists should watch for temporary lane closures through the week and prepare to slow down and use caution as the signal and pavement markings are installed.The new bridges are the first of many that will be taking shape during the project.

I-69 Finish Line includes 43 new bridges along the corridor with 35 existing bridges being rehabilitated or replaced.

Cragen Road will close permanently at S.R. 37 after the bridges connecting Perry Road with Old S.R. 37 open to traffic. S.R. 37 access will be at Ennis Road and Henderson Ford Road to the south and Banta Road and S.R. 144 to the north.Mahalasville Road reopened this weekend between S.R. 37 and Southview Drive. It was closed last week for sewer installation.

A new section of Morgan Street opened last week connecting Country Club Road with the intersection of Old S.R. 37 and Myra Lane. Crews are wrapping up realignment and reconstruction work along Commercial Drive. Access is expected to be restored between Industrial Drive and Gardner Avenue later this month.

Portions of S.R. 39 and Morton Avenue in Martinsville have been widened to four lanes between S.R. 37 and S.R. 67. The last of the barrels will be removed after finishing touches and final inspection work.

Motorists need to prepare for a closure of S.R. 252 this week. S.R. 252 is expected to close east of Cramertown Loop today to install a new drainage structure under the roadway. The detour will follow S.R. 135 to S.R. 44.   Click here to see a map. Access to Grand Valley Shoppes from S.R. 37 will remain open using Cramertown Loop. The work is expected to take about a week to complete.

Shoulder work and paving continue on northbound S.R. 37 from Morgan Street to S.R. 144. Watch for intermittent northbound lane closures between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. A northbound lane may also be closed nightly (6 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday – Friday) for paving. The work is expected to continue through later this month.

Crews are also completing median work on S.R. 37 north of S.R. 144. Watch for both daytime and nighttime lane closures where the crossover is being paved.Motorists should continue to watch for flaggers during pavement patching on James Baldwin, Robert Curry and Southview Drive. The work is expected to take another week or so to complete.

Rolling closures and lane closures are possible daily along S.R. 37 near Egbert Road, Henderson Ford Road, Perry Road and Waverly Road.
