Lawrence County Voting Centers Open At 6 a.m. Election Day

(LAWRENCE CO.) – Election officials are ready for a busy day tomorrow for the final day of voting in the 2020 Presidential Election.

Voters line up along the sidewalk this morning at the Courthouse Plaza to vote in this year’s election.

Early voting ended at noon today. There was a steady stream of voters at the Courthouse Plaza on 16th Street this morning. Turnout so far exceeded the 14,095 voters in the 2016 Presidential Election.

As of Saturday, there was a total of 14,972 voters who cased their ballots or mailed in absentee ballots.

Election workers were trained on Saturday on how to operate the polls and are prepared to sanitize machines and maintain social distancing tomorrow.

The counting of absentee ballots will begin at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday morning with seven teams ready to tackle the task.

Officials warn with the large number of absentee ballots election results may be slower than normal.

Voting Centers in Lawrence County polls open at 6:00 a.m. and will close at 6:00 p.m.
