Teen Learning Center Changing Hours To Help Students With e-Learning

(BEDFORD) – After North Lawrence Community Schools’ announcement that the middle schools and high school will be moving to a hybrid of in-person and virtual learning from October 26th through November 6th officials at the Teen Center recognize that the switch to hybrid learning creates an issue for some teens that lack the resources necessary to be successful in a virtual learning environment – internet access, supervision, etc.

The Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence County Thornton Teen Center wants to do what they can to help bridge that gap.

Beginning on Monday, October 26th, the Teen Center will be open from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. to teens in order to provide a virtual learning space. The cost is $15 per day for each teen. Officials are waiving the yearly membership dues through this timeframe.

To make the most of this time officials are making the following agreement with teens who attend.

The Teen Center will provide:

  • Internet access
  • Supervised environment
  • Breakfast and lunch
  • Brain break activities

Teens will:

  • Attend virtual class sessions
  • Work on schoolwork
  • Be respectful to staff and each other

Masks will be required.

The Teen Center will not be providing transportation.

Any middle schooler who leaves between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. MUST be signed out by a parent or guardian.

The Teen Center will be closed on Election Day – Tuesday, November 3rd. The afterschool program will run on a normal schedule.

We’re in this together! #OurKids
