Voorhies was elected as fire chief last year. She is the first female elected to this position in Lawrence county.
“The first year has been a big learning curve and I hope to continue to learn and grow in this position. I hope to continue to make improvements to our station and vehicles and to grow our volunteer numbers,” she added.
Volunteer fire departments across the United States are having trouble getting volunteers to fill the ranks as the demands on emergency personnel have increased. The department is seeking individuals who would like to serve their community.
