SCOTTSBURG – Bedford North Lawrence swept the singles while conquering Scottsburg 4-1 during boys high school tennis action on Tuesday.
Graham Turner won a three-set battle at No.3 singles to spur the Stars (11-6) to their sixth victory in the last seven matches.
Turner rallied from a 3-0 deficit to win the first set against David Gaffney, then took control in the third for a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win. Adam Tlustek topped Ryan Gibson 6-1, 6-4 (after trailing 3-0 in the second) at No.1, and Steven Graham stopped Eli Carr 6-3, 6-2 at No.2.
BNL’s Cameron Gratzer absorbed a ball to his eye midway through the first set at No.1 doubles, but he bounced back with Konley Woodward for a 7-6 (7-5 in the tiebreaker), 6-2 triumph over Cole Atha and Jace Watson.
“Thankfully it was nothing serious,” BNL coach Donnie Thomas said. “It was red around his eye and a little bloodshot, but he wasn’t going to let that stop him. It motivated him more.”
The Warriors won at No.2 doubles as Joe Neace and Blake Drury fought off Nate Pemberton and Caleb Jones 6-2, 5-7, 6-1.
The Stars will host Salem on Thursday.
