(MITCHELL) – The budget hearing for Mitchell Community Schools for 2021 will take place on September 28, 2020 at the administration building at 6:00 p.m.
The approval for the budget will take place on October 19, 2020, following fall break. The school board approved changing the date of the school board meeting.
Proposed budget for 2021:
- Total Budget for 2021 – $19,251,739
- Education Fund – $10,394,000
- Debt Service – $2,707,000
- Operations Fund – $5,350,000
- Rainy Day Fund – $800,000
The tax rate for the school corporation will be $1.6556. This is advertised higher but is not expected to be the stated rate.
In other business approved the following:
- School improvement plan for the 2020-2021 school year for the Mitchell High School
- Mitchell Community School Board will begin looking at how to donate or sell two homes on Ninth Street that the corporation owns. The City of Mitchell is offering two lots to place those two homes on.
- The person seeking a donation or bid on the home would be responsible for the removal and connection of utilities for the homes. The exact process has not been formalized at this time as the school attorney and superintendent will draft a process to be followed to acquire the two homes.
- Mitchell Schools Superintendent Brent Comer provided school board members with an update on the reopening and safety plan. He advised board members there were some adjustments for the in-person learning but things seem to be doing fine.
- Connectivity with virtual learning has not been going as smoothly as hoped. 130 hot spots have been given out to students to connect to the internet. Other locations are being sought out for students to be able to do their homework assignments. This situation is still be looked at this time.
