Floyd Central powers past BNL

GALENA – Floyd Central ended Bedford North Lawrence’s six-match winning streak with a three-set sweep during high school volleyball action on Thursday night.

The Highlanders posted a 25-17, 25-18, 25-8 victory while improving to 3-0 in the Hoosier Hills Conference.

”The stats don’t totally display our play,” BNL coach Gabrielle Arthur said. “I thought the first two sets we played extremely wel. We played some of the best volleyball I’ve seen. Serving runs from Floyd in both sets killed us.

“The last game, we looked defeated. It’s hard and tough to play at Floyd. They’re a good team and the atmosphere is incomparable to other teams we play. But the lack of effort and execution isn’t acceptable. We’ve never not played to the end of a set or match, and from here moving forward we never will again.”

Annie Waggoner had 4 kills, 4 digs and 4 assists, Merritt Callahan totaled 9 service points, and Carlee Kern added 3 kills, 6 digs and 3 blocks for the Stars.

“Sydney (Gipson) and Annie had awesome blocks on the right side,” Arthur said. “Carlee and Myla (Bergman) played phenomenal defense, Haley was a crucial server and Merritt added some great sets.

“Tomorrow’s a new day. On to another conference game.”

BNL (9-3, 1-1 in the HHC) will journey to New Albany on Tuesday.
