Obituary: Jackie “Jack” Lee Byrer

March 4, 1934 – August 25, 2020

Jackie (Jack) Lee Byrer, 86 of Bedford, IN passed away peacefully August 25, 2020, at Garden Villa.

He was born March 4, 1934, in Odon, IN to Willard and Vincie (Herndon) Byrer.  He married Janet Keith July 15, 1961, and she survives. Jack retired from Public Service Indiana (Duke Energy) in 1996 after 42 years.  He was drafted into the United States Army in 1956 and served for two years.  He was a member of Leatherwood Christian Church. 

Jack was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  He enjoyed spending time watching his grandchildren play sports and any other activities they were involved in.  He also enjoyed the beauty of God’s creation, especially birds.  The bird feeders were never empty.  Jack was also known by many to always have a pocket of candy, which he offered to you every time you saw him.

The family would like to give special thanks to Sydney Stahl, Gracie Flinn, Heart to Heart Hospice and Garden Villa for their wonderful care for Jack during his final days.  

Surviving to cherish the memory of Jack are: his wife, Janet, daughter,  Amy (Vince) Garmon of New Albany, IN and son, Brent (Tammy) Byrer of Bedford; Grandchildren, Evan (Mollie) Garmon, Blaine Byrer, Luke Garmon and fiance Hayley Haws, Marissa (Jeremy) Buess and Blaze Byrer; Great Granddaughter, Skylar Garmon and Great Grandson, Brixton Buess.

He is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Norman Byrer, Ermil Byrer, Russell Byrer and Virgil Byrer; four sisters, Betty Smith, Ann Givan, Gail Hudson and Autumn Lamb.

Funeral Services for Jack L. Byrer will be at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, August 28 at Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes with Vince Garmon officiating. Burial will be private. Visitation will be Friday, August 28 from 3:30 p.m. until the service hour at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Leatherwood Christian Church.
