Warden Frank Vanihel, Caseworker Steve Miller, Oakland City University Instructor Carol Roberts & MSME Graduates

WVCF implemented the MSME-NCRC Program in 2016.  The program is geared towards helping offenders gain necessary skills to transition from the classroom to the workforce.  The participants do interactive journal entries, hands-on activities, and study information specific to career readiness and workplace development.  Through the course curriculum they gain valuable education to help them obtain their National Career Readiness Certification (NCRC).

Celebrating Their Success

The course was presented by Oakland City University Instructor Carol Roberts.  Her goal is to inspire the students to reach their full potential through continued education.  The quote from the text she selected to feature on the board at the graduation read:  “Change happens when the pain of staying the same is greater than the pain of change.” – Tony Robbins

Oakland City University Instructor Carol Roberts stated the following, “The MSME Program here at WVCF has been rewarding not only for the students, but for myself as well.  There are a number of aspects about the program that have made it a truly fulfilling experience.  Helping students pass reading, math and language tests that are critical for gaining employment upon release is one of the most valuable parts of the class.   However, those skills would not do them any good if they did not also learn the necessary soft skills they will need to function in a working environment.  The most remarkable aspect by far though, is seeing them believe that they are in fact employable and the hope that brings them.”
