Motorcyclist Injured In Bloomington Accident

(BLOOMINGTON) – A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries after his vehicle was struck by another driver Sunday afternoon near the Indiana University campus.

According to IU Police Chief Deputy Shannon Bunger, the male driver of the motorcycle was traveling east on Atwater Avenue when he was struck by a driver of a Volvo SUV traveling north on South Hawthorne Drive.

Witnesses at the scene told police the male driver of the SUV stopped and then proceeded through the intersection not seeing the approaching motorcycle.

The motorcycle struck the passenger door of the SUV and was thrown from his bike on impact.

The name of the drivers are not being released at this time pending notification to family members, Chief Deputy Bunger added.

The motorcyclist was transported by ambulance to IU Health Hospital for treatment. The driver of the SUV was not injured.

Indiana State Police troopers are assisting with a reconstruction of the crash, Chief Deputy Bunger added.
