Trooper Ian Matthews Promoted To Detective

(BLOOMINGTON) – Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas Carter has announced the promotion of Trooper Ian Matthews to the rank of Detective, where he will serve as a criminal investigator for the Bloomington District.

Trooper Matthews is a native of Spencer, Indiana and a 2007 graduate of Owen Valley High School. After high school, Matthews graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice.

Matthews was selected to attend the 75th Indiana State Police Academy and after graduating, he was appointed as a Trooper in November of 2015. His first assignment was the Bloomington District where he primarily patrolled Owen County. During his career, Detective Matthews has served as member of the ISP Tactical Intervention Platoon Team (TIP), a Control Tactics Instructor, a Background Investigator, a Field Training Officer (FTO) and Drug Recognition Expert (DRE).

In his new position Detective Matthews will conduct criminal investigations throughout the district as well as manage, investigate and process crime scenes. He will also interview witnesses, suspects and informants.

Matthews will also support local police agencies in any capacity necessary with criminal investigations.

Detective Matthews resides in Owen County with his wife Deborah and their daughter.
