Frances “Fran” Elaine (Whitney) Kristan, 86, of Bedford, passed away at Hospice House, Bloomington, Indiana on Saturday, August 8, 2020, after a long and graceful battle with cancer.
Fran was born on May 4, 1934, in Indiana, Pennsylvania. She was the daughter of Frank Neal and Margaret (Barr) Whitney. Fran graduated from Pine High School in Heilwood, Pennsylvania and worked as a waitress and factory worker until she married Michael “Mike” Kristan on October 21, 1961.
Fran spent the rest of her life as a homemaker and was also a babysitter to many children after she and her family relocated to Bedford, Indiana in 1978 for Mike’s career. Fran was more than a mom to her children; she was a mom and granny to those who entered her home. Fran, Mom, Granny, Gran, whatever you called her, she loved you and treated you as her own.
Fran is survived by one daughter, Holly A. Kristan, Bedford; three sons, Daniel L. (Rene) Kristan, Bedford; Terry L. (Kira) Kristan, Stephenson, VA and Michael A. (LouAnn) Kristan, Orleans, IN; grandchildren, Christopher, Danielle, Dena, Jason, Nathan, Ashley, Ryan, Matthew, Kerissa, William, Samantha, Shyla, Rhiannon, Tatiana, and Kaimana; 27 great-grandchildren and six great-great children.
Fran was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers and sisters, and a great-granddaughter.
A service will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2020, at 5:00 p.m. at Cresthaven Funeral Home. Friends may visit with the family to share their condolences from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. prior to the service. Pastor
Stephen Freels will be officiating. Fran chose cremation, no graveside services will follow.
