(MITCHELL) – Those driving the streets around Mitchell have been dealing with several detours as the CSX Railroad makes several railroad crossing improvements throughout the city.
The improvements along the east and west track through Mitchell started early last week.
As part of the CSX network infrastructure maintenance program, CSX is conducting repairs on highway grade crossings in Daviess, Jackson, Lawrence and Martin counties.
This work has been closely coordinated with local road authorities and CSX expects to complete the repairs next week, barring any weather delays or other unexpected matters.
“CSX appreciates the patience as we complete this important work, which is critical to ensuring the safety of motorists using these crossings and maintaining a safe reliable network,” said a spokesperson with CSX Railroad in Jacksonville Florida.
Meridian Road in Mitchell has been re-opened following work on the crossing for the east and west line. The crossing that goes into the Lehigh Portland Plant has been reopened as well.
