Virtual Sleep Out For Shalom Center

(BLOOMINGTON) – A sleep out under the stars is scheduled for Friday, July 24, 2020 from 8 p.m. until Saturday, July 25, 2020 at 8 a.m.

The virtual sleep out is a fundraiser for the Shalom Community Center in partnership with First United Methodist Church in Bloomington.

Dedicated adults, teens, children will be sleeping out to raise critical funds and awareness for people experiencing homelessness in Monroe County.

Due to COVID-19 this year’s sleep out will look at little different and will take place virtually.

Participants will be sleeping out to raise critical funds in their backyards, living room floors, and practice social distancing while doing it.

The net proceeds of the event will support Shalom’s overnight shelter, Friends Place, the only non-religious year round emergency shelter for homelessness for homeless adults in the region.

Friends Place is a sober shelter for Monroe County residents, providing hope and support as people find their way back home.

Combined with Shalom’s housing and employment assistance, Friends Place has become one of the most successful shelters in Indiana.

All ages are encouraged to sleep out.

“I am supporting the Shalom Center to show support and solidarity between our counties,” said Ginny Fullen of Bedford.

“I suggest my friends locally and out of state to do their part and support the homeless shelter of their choice,” said Fullen.

The Men’s Warming Shelter is also seeking donations and Fullen will be sleeping under the stars at a undisclosed location in Bedford to support both shelters in her effort. “This is to promote awareness of the plight of homelessness, teach your children in the way of the Lord,” Fullen concluded.

Donations for Bedford Warming Center can be sent to Post Office Box 430, Bedford, IN. 47421.
