Obituary: Loris L. (Lou) Beretta

July 7,1943 – July 20, 2020

Loris L. (Lou) Beretta, 77 of Bedford, passed away at 8:29pm on Friday, July 10, 2020 at Stonebridge Health Campus in Bedford,

Born July 7, 1943 in Bedford, the son of Loris C. and Martha L. Beretta.

Lou was a 1961 graduate of Bedford High School and attended Ball State University and Carbon College in Price, Utah

He married Bernadette Reynolds on September 21, 1963 and she preceded him in death on June 11, 2008.

Lou was a firefighter for the City of Bedford for 27 years and retired as assistant chief. He was also an EMT, a stone cutter and a talented stone carver. Stone carving was his passion, following in the footsteps of his paternal grandfather, Giulio Beretta. Lou was very proud of his Italian heritage and made trips to Carrara, Italy and Proctor and Rutland, Vermont to gain information about his ancestors.

Survivors include two daughters, Stephanie Dalton of Jasonville, and Carmella Newton of Bedford, six grandchildren, Clint Dalton, Colt Dalton, Cade Dalton all of Jasonville, Andrew Endris of Bedford, Breanna Endris of Mitchell, and Wyatt Newton of Bedford, three great-grandchildren, Dylan Endris and Owen Endris of Bedford, and Sidney Slaughterback of Mitchell, two siblings, Ann Brown of Bedford, and Ned Beretta of Mitchell.

His parents, wife, and great-granddaughter, Jessica Beretta Endris preceded him in death.

The family would like to acknowledge and extend their deepest appreciation to Lou’s very special friends, Jeff Key, Pat O’Brien, and John and Judy Walker. 

Private graveside services for family and close friends will be conducted at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, July 14, 2020, at Green Hill Cemetery in Bedford, with Father Adam Ahern officiating. Cresthaven Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
