Obituary: Shirley Marie Harding

April 27, 1939 – June 20, 2020

Shirley Marie Harding, 81, of Shoals, passed away June 20, 2020, in Washington, Indiana.

She was born April 27, 1939. in Germantown, Ohio to James H. and Stella Marie (Lane) Cornett. She married Larry R. Harding on September 1, 1957, in Shoals and he preceded her in death on January 17, 2020.

She graduated Shoals High School Class of 1957, was a graduate of the House of James Beauty School in Bedford, started her career with Violet’s Beauty Salon in Shoals, and then became owner and operator of Shirley & Company. She was also a Beauty Consultant with Mary Kay Cosmetics. Shirley was a member and Past National President of Psi Iota XI Sorority, a Fourth Day Member of the Southwest Indiana Walk to Emmaus, Charter Member of the Church of the Cross in Shoals, the Martin County Historical Society and the Women’s Study Society.

Survivors include her father, James Cornett of Loogootee; children, Teresa (Brian) Hewitt of Terre Haute, Tami (Chris) Jones of Loogootee, Todd D. Harding of Shoals and Tawni (Brad) Ridgley of Wheatland; grandchildren, Matthew Jones, Joseph (Jennifer) Hewitt, Jordan Smith, Ashley Knight, Molly (Cory) Kassis, Summer Dreiman, Megan (Brandon) Wedding, Robert (Haley) Ridgley, and Levi Steinman; great-grandchildren surviving include Mattyson, Mosby and Marly Jones, Ashlyn Dreiman, Gracie Larson, Jackson, Kinnley and Chase Wedding, Gannon and Emmalyn Ridgley, Carter Lawrence Hewitt; sisters, Marilyn Tow of Indianapolis, Becky Truelove of Seymour, Tennessee, Sally Burch of Shoals, Shari Flippins of Santa Claus; and one brother Richard Cornett of Loogootee.

She is preceded in death by her mother, husband, three brothers, Jim, Roger and Randy Cornett, and one sister, Betty Lou Cornett.

Funeral services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Queen-Lee Chapel in Shoals with burial in the Spring Hill Cemetery. Bro. Pat Johnson is officiating. Visitation is noon until the time of service on Wednesday.
