No Meal Price Increase For Mitchell Community School Students

(MITCHELL) – Mitchell Community School students will not have an increase in meal prices this upcoming school year.

The school system applied for a waiver and was approved for no meal increases for the 2020-2021 school year.

During the Mitchell Community School Board meeting Monday evening, the School Corporation did not receive any bids for fuel and approved to re-advertise the bids again for a response. This makes the second year they did not receive a response.

A resolution to terminate the Joint Services Agreement for the Orange, Lawrence, Jackson, Martin, and Greene County Joint Services was approved. The termination will start in the 2021 school year. A transition agreement was also approved for the 2020-2021 school year.

A list of recommended fundraisers was also approved for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year.

Danny Reynolds was approved to represent the Mitchell Community School Corporation on the Mitchell Industrial Park Board. Reynolds has served many years in this capacity.

A Memorandum of Understanding was approved between the Centerstone of Indiana Inc. and Mitchell Community Schools. This is a requirement from the Indiana Department of Education for mental health services for students.

The school corporation continues to work on how the corporation will open in the 2020-2021 school year. No decision has been made, with many school personnel meeting and discussing possible scenarios in how that may look.

Currently, the school corporation is looking at all options, and a survey is being conducted for parents to weigh in on this discussion. With over 1294 surveys complete 53.2 percent preferred a traditional format and 46.8 percent preferred a virtual. WBIW will keep the public informed on future announcements from the school corporation’s decision.
