Jessica Staggs

“Obviously, I am excited and thankful for the support from Lawrence County voters,” Staggs said. “I am thankful all the candidates ran a very clean race. I am looking forward to the campaign in the general election.”

Staggs claimed 37.17 percent of the votes (2,207), edging out Penny Cobb who had 32.52 percent of the votes (1,931) and Paula Stewart with 30.30 percent of the votes (1,799).

Paula Stewart

“I assume it’s the best thing for me,” said Paula Stewart. “Politics can be ugly! There has to be something better – God is in control. As an elected official when you do what is right, you can’t always make everyone happy. It will sort itself out.”

Penny Cobb

Penny Cobb congratulated Staggs on her win.

“I congratulate Jessica on her win,” Cobb added. “I wish it had been a better year. This virus made it difficult to campaign. It was a close race and I gave it my best. I want to thank everyone for their support.”
