Work Begins Thursday On Resurfacing Of U.S. 31 In Bartholomew And Johnson Counties

(BARTHOLOMEW/JOHNSON CO.) – Dave O’Mara Contractor Inc. is scheduled to begin work later this week on an $8.4 million resurface contract on U.S. 31 in Bartholomew and Johnson Counties.

The project will be completed in two sections, one from the Young’s Creek Bridge to Westview Drive/Main Street in Franklin and the other from just south of I-65 at Taylorsville to S.R. 252 near Amity.

Crews plan to start with saw-cutting operations on U.S. 31 in Franklin Thursday evening (May 28), followed by patching the week of June 1. Work in Franklin will take place at night, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., and is scheduled to be complete by the end of July.

The second section of the project will follow a similar order of operations, with patching, milling, and paving expected to begin later this summer. Work south of Franklin is planned to be complete by the end of October, while the completion date for the entire contract is November 20, 2020.
