Searchers Find Missing Huron Man

(HURON) – Searchers located a Huron man Tuesday night after he went missing in the 3600 block of U.S. 50 East.

Approximately at 10:15 p.m. the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department requested assistance from the Lawrence County Search & Rescue Team and Huron Fire Department to locate an 86-year old gentleman who has dementia.

Lawrence County Police, Lawrence County Search & Rescue, and Huron Fire Department located a missing Huron man Tuesday night.

The man had been missing for approximately two hours before emergency personnel were notified. The man resides with his wife who summoned help.

“We started our search along U.S. 50 West using spotlights and flashlights and were able to locate him just a few minutes after the search began,” said Joe Stewart, Lawrence County Search & Rescue team leader. “He was located just a few hundred feet from his residence.”

The man was uninjured.

“If he would have fallen, the man would not of been able to get up, which would have made finding him more difficult. We are happy for such a good and quick outcome,” Stewart added.

The Lawrence County Search & Rescue partners with Huron Volunteer Fire Department. The rescue team members are trained in search and rescue procedures and just recently came back from training in West Virginia.
