Obituary: W. May (Johnson) Newkirk

June 24, 1924 – April 2, 2020

W. May (Johnson) Newkirk, 95, of Ocala, FL, passed away at 9:26 pm on April 2, 2020, at her home surrounded by her brother, Jack, and sister-in-law, Becky.

She was born June 24, 1924, in Lawrence Co, the daughter of Fay E. and Villa (Monday) Johnson. She married John E. Newkirk in 1955 and he preceded her in death on September 17, 2009. She was a secretary for the First Church of God and Ruel Steele, Attorney both in Bedford in earlier years and in the North Lawrence School System in Indianapolis. John and May retired and moved to Ocala, FL, and enjoyed many wonderful years. May was the oldest of eight children.

Survivors are three brothers, Jim Johnson, and wife, Wilma, of Arizona, Jack Johnson and wife, Becky, of Bedford, and Kenny Johnson, of the State of Washington; two sisters, Rose Cummings, and husband, Jack and Vera Quackenbush and husband, Don, all of Bedford; sisters-in-law, Barbara Johnson, of the State of Washington and Marilyn Johnson, of Bedford;
several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, brothers, Russell, and Benny Johnson.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 14th at the Leatherwood Christian Cemetery with Pastor Sherman Thomas officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leatherwood Christian Cemetery.
