Bloomington Man Arrested For Burglaries At IU Apartments, Acacia Fraternity

(BLOOMINGTON) – Indiana University Police arrested a man who is accused of two on-campus burglaries at the University East Apartments and the Acacia Fraternity.

On Friday, police arrested 29-year-old Stanley Staples on charges burglary, theft, criminal trespass, possession of synthetic drugs or lookalike substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and violation of a local disaster emergency.

Staples was captured on video surveillance footage at the scene of the crimes.

According to police, the first burglary happened around 8:20 a.m. on Monday at University East Apartments on East Third Street.

Footage shows Staples trying to open doors to see which apartments were unlocked. He is then seen entering the apartment where he allegedly stole a wallet and left.

The resident in the apartment woke up and saw Staples stealing the wallet.

Staples is also accused of the burglary at Acacia Fraternity that was reported on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. He is accused of taking several items including a bicycle.
