Release Assessment of Low-Risk, Non-Violent Juveniles and Jail Inmates a Local Effort

(UNDATED) – The statewide effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 includes a joint letter from all three branches of government to local criminal justice leaders regarding the impact of COVID-19 on detention facilities.

Governor Eric Holcomb, Senate President Pro Tem Rodric Bray, House Speaker Todd Huston, and Chief Justice Loretta Rush signed the letter which states, “We encourage every community that is or will be undertaking a process to evaluate whether to release juveniles and inmates, to do so in a responsible and humane manner.”

The letter is available on a website that provides details on the Judicial Branch’s response to COVID-19.
