Two Injured When Motorcycle Hits Deer

(BEDFORD) — Two people were injured late Saturday night when the motorcycle they were riding struck a deer on State Road 446 near its intersection with Gil Gal Road.

According to a Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department police report, 38-year-old William Torphy, of Bedford, was traveling north on State Road 446 at 8:37 p.m. on his 2016 Honda motorcycle when a deer ran in front of the motorcycle. Torphy laid down the bike and it slid along the roadway.

Torphy and his passenger, 38-year-old Kindell J. Barnes, of Springville, were thrown from the motorcycle.

Neither were wearing helmets during the incident. Both suffered facial and head injuries and were taken by ambulance to Indiana University Health Bloomington Hospital for treatment.
