Conservation Officers Investigating Fatal Off-Road Vehicle Accident in Bloomington

(BLOOMINGTON) – Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a fatal off-road vehicle accident that happened in the 1400 block of Cedar Bluff Road in Bloomington, Friday night.

The accident occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m.

According to conservation officers, 37-year-old David Deckard Jr., of Bloomington, was operating a four-wheeler on private property in a wooded area. 

Deckard lost control and was thrown off the vehicle. He was not wearing a helmet or proper safety equipment.

Deckard suffered both head and chest injuries. He was transported by ambulance to Bloomington Hospital for treatment. He died early this morning from those injuries.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation. 

Indiana Conservation Officers stress the safe operation of off-road vehicles and the use of proper protective equipment such as helmets.

Indiana Conservation Officers were assisted by Monroe County Sheriff’s Department deputies, Monroe County medics, and Monroe Fire Protection District first responders.
