Adjusted Service Schedule for Monroe County Solid Waste Management District

(BLOOMINGTON) – The Monroe County Solid Waste Management District is adjusting its drop-off recycling and orange bag service schedule for Wednesday, March 25th through Tuesday, April 7th

Due to Governor Holcomb’s “Stay-At-Home” order for that period, the Governor requests that people stay in their homes and nonessential travel be curtailed to reduce the spread of the coronavirus.

Therefore, beginning Wednesday, March 25th, until further notice, the
South Walnut Recycling Center and Household Hazardous Waste facility, located at 3400 South Walnut Street will be CLOSED.

The Rural Recycling Centers will be open on Wednesdays and Saturdays ONLY from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m.

The reuse facilities and the District’s Administration Building and the District’s Administration Building will be CLOSED to the public.

The District will provide scheduling and other updates as they become available on the District’s Facebook page, website, and on the recorded message at 812-349-2020.

The District apologizes for any inconvenience. Officials must put the health and safety of their employees and the community first by promoting social distancing and limiting person to person contact.

Officials encourage residents to only dispose of orange bag trash during this time. For recyclables, use the “Recycle Right” protocols and rinse your glass, metal and plastic recyclables to rid them of any food residues or other contaminants and store them along with your paper and cardboard until the stay-at-home order is lifted.

The District reminds the public as of March 16th, the District can no longer accept Styrofoam (EPS/expanded polystyrene). This material should be
placed in the trash.

Effective March 25th, the District’s South Walnut Recycling Center and Household Hazardous Waste will be CLOSED; Rural Recycling Centers will be open ONLY Wednesdays and Saturdays from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. and the Administration building will be CLOSED to the public.

Rural Recycling Centers include:

  • Ellettsville, 6200 N. Matthews Dr
  • Westside, 341 N. Oard Rd
  • Southside, 400 W. Dillman Rd
  • Northeast Recycling Center, 6015 East State Rd 45 off East Bethel Lane in New Unionville.
