Delayed: Bridge Work Wednesday on U.S. 31 Between Uniontown and Seymour in Jackson County

(JACKSON CO.) — Work originally scheduled to begin today (Wednesday, March 18) on a multi-million dollar bridge rehabilitation project along U.S. 31 in Jackson County has been delayed due to weather and crew availability.

Now beginning Monday, March 23, the U.S. 31 overpass over I-65 will close for 120 days (through mid-to-late July) for superstructure replacement. The overpass is located approximately four miles north of State Road 250 (Uniontown). The official detour for the closure will follow U.S. 31 to U.S. 50 to I-65 at Exit 36 (Crothersville). Shoulder closures and lane restrictions on I-65 will be necessary during bridge deck demolition and beam setting operations in addition to a 55 mph speed limit.

Work on the U.S. 31 bridge over Mutton Ditch Creek has been delayed to early May. The bridge will be restricted to one lane with a temporary traffic signal for application of a bridge deck overlay. The temporary signal will remain in place for 150 days. The bridge is located just over one mile north of I-65, between Uniontown and Seymour.

Motorists should watch for slowed or stopped traffic, use extra caution and drive distraction-free through all work zones. The contract completion date for the entire project is September 30, 2020. All work is weather dependent.
