Bedford Man Arrested After Beating His Dog To Death

(BEDFORD) – A Bedford man was arrested after a neighbor witnessed him beating his dog.

Bedford Police officers were called to the 1400 block of 17th Street around 6:48 p.m.

When officers arrived they spoke to the owner of the dog and to witnesses. The owner was identified as 26-year-old Samuel Miller, of Bedford.

“Officers located a mixed breed four-month-old puppy dead on the back porch,” says Chief Terry Moore. “Miller told officers he didn’t mean to kill the dog; he was just upset because the dog defecated inside the house.”

Witnesses told police they saw Miller throw the dog from the back porch and while the dog was trying to hide he walked over and started kicking it before finally dragging it back onto the porch.

“While speaking to Miller officers also noticed in plain view paraphernalia and a substance that tested positive for marijuana,” Chief Moore added.

Miller was arrested and transported to jail on charges of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and cruelty to a vertebrate animal and torturing a vertebrate animal.
