Barbara Jean Mundy, 75, of Mitchell, passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2020, at Indiana University Health Bedford Hospital.
Born May 28, 1944, in Lawrence County, she was the daughter of Harvey Goldsberry and Mary (Woods) Chastain. She married James Stanley Mundy, Sr. May 18, 1962.
Barbara had been employed at Hoosier Uplands Head Start and Mitchell Manor. She graduated from Huron High School in 1962 and was a member of the Fairview Church of Christ. Barbara enjoyed decorating cakes, reading, and being with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, James Stanley Mundy, Sr. of Mitchell; children, Sheri Ellen Mundy of Mitchell, Sandra Jeanenne (John) Abel of Shoals, James Stanley (Amy) Mundy, Jr., of Shoals; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter; brothers, Don Goldsberry of Mitchell and David Payton of Mitchell; stepbrothers and stepsisters
Her parents; grandson, Waylon Abel; and brothers, Bill Goldsberry and Charles “Chuck” Payton, preceded her in death.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 29, in the Memorial Chapel of Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center with Brother Kris Beasley and Vernon Sutton officiating. Burial will be in Clark Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
