Two Columbus Officers Arrested for Ghost Employment

(COLUMBUS) – Two Columbus police officers are facing charges of ghost employment, official misconduct, and theft.

Lieutenant Dan Meister and Sergeant Ron May were arrested Friday after Indiana State Police and the Indiana State Board of Accounts discovered in November 2018, they worked off duty at Columbus Regional Hospital while still on the clock with the Columbus Police Department.

The overlapping work spanned from 2015 to 2018, according to Indiana State Police. During that time, Meister and May were paid by hospital security and the police department for the same hours. 

Investigators say Meister got paid for overlapping hours 52 different times. May was paid overlapping hours 62 different times. 

Both were arrested and taken to Bartholomew County Jail.
