Alzheimer’s Association Invites Hoosiers to Honor Loved Ones by Registering for the Longest Day

(UNDATED) – As Valentine’s Day approaches, the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Indiana Chapter invites local residents to do something they love in honor of someone they love by hosting a fundraiser for “The Longest Day.” The Longest Day is a do-it-yourself fundraiser culminating on Saturday, June 20 – the summer solstice.

Through The Longest Day, any activity – including biking, walking, baking, playing card games and more – can become a fundraiser to fight Alzheimer’s disease. By signing up early, participants can benefit from personalized coaching.

“Each year, we serve thousands of people throughout the Chapter area with services such as our education programs, support groups and calls to the 24/7 Helpline – all of which are free of charge,” said Morgan Shiflett, manager, The Longest Day. “Fundraisers like The Longest Day help make that happen. They also fund research into new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. This is a great way for people who have been affected by the disease to fight back, and we are always available to guide participants through the process.”

In Indiana alone, 110,000 Hoosiers are living with Alzheimer’s disease and another 340,000 are serving as unpaid caregivers.

In 2019, 225 participants raised more than $252,000 for the Greater Indiana Chapter through The Longest Day.
