Wabash Valley Correctional Facility Announces Staff Promotion

(CARLISLE) – Wabash Valley Correctional Facility (WVCF) and Warden Richard Brown congratulate Ashton Barker on his new position as a Correctional Sergeant.

Sergeant Barker began his career as a Correctional Officer at the Putnamville Correctional Facility in 2014.  During his time at Putnamville he worked in a variety of units including Restrictive Status Housing.  Sergeant Barker was also certified as a Quick Response Team (QRT) Member, a K9 Handler, a Train the Trainer Instructor and a Personal Protection Instructor. 

Since transferring to Wabash Valley Correctional Facility (WVCF) he has been assigned to numerous posts on I-Bracket including Restricted Status Housing, South Yard, G Housing Unit (GHU), and North Yard.  In addition, Sgt. Barker is a member of WVCF’s K9 Squad and maintains certifications for Transportation, Shotgun, Rifle, Handgun, QRT, and Taser.  Sergeant Barker comes with a wealth of knowledge and several years of experience that will undoubtedly serve him well as he takes on his new role as a WVCF Sergeant. 

Major D. Russell stated, “Sergeant Barker has a vast array of custody experience between his time at Putnamville Correctional Facility and WVCF.  In addition, he is certified in several areas. The combination made him an excellent candidate for sergeant.  He is a welcome addition to the Custody Supervisors Team at WVCF.”
