Dugger Schools Close Due to Flu-Related Illnesses

(DUGGER) – Dugger Community Schools planned to have an E-Learning Day on Monday, February 3rd but due to an excessive amount of illness cases, Dugger Union Community Schools will be closed today, Friday and Monday.

The E-Learning day is now scheduled for May 8th.

So far there are a total of 38 deaths caused by the flu-related illness this year, including a Seymour Youth pastor who died of the flu last week. Allison Williams, 36 served as a youth pastor at the Reddington Christian Church and lived in Seymour for more than a decade.

The flu season starts in the fall every year.

The Indiana Department of Health reported 8 flu-related deaths in 2018-2019, 79 deaths in the 2017-2018 and eight deaths in 2016-2017.

The CDC estimates that this season alone there are at least 13 million flu illnesses, 120,000 hospitalizations, and 6,600 flu-related deaths.

Common flu symptoms include fever, chills, cough, sore throat, muscle or body aches, runny or stuffy nose, fatigue, and headaches. The CDC said that not everyone with the flu will run a fever. Some will experience vomiting and diarrhea.
